Last week our entire school had an excursion out to Jones Valley Teaching Farm, not too far from our school. The week was wet, cold, and rainy. But we weren't going to let that stop us!
When we got there, Mrs. Dawn's class went to their own program, while the rest of the school started a tour of farm. It looks like Mrs. Dawn's class had a fun time!
Meanwhile, the other classes walked throughout the farm, getting a tour of the chicken coop, garden, and greenhouse.
We even got to harvest some carrots and cabbage.
Did I mention it was really cold and rainy? The kids were such troopers! Who knew holdling cabbage could be so much fun?
While Mrs. Dawn's class headed back to school, the rest of us walked to a kitchen at the YMCA a block away. It was time to make something yummy with the veggies we collected.
The kids cut carrots, cabbage, and bell peppers to make a slaw.
The slaw was delicious!
Huge thanks to Zoe and Stephanie of JVTF, for welcoming us to the farm and making it such a memorable day. We had such a great time and can't wait to go back soon.
